Kroger's Private Selection Crumbled Goat Cheese was added to the retailer's portfolio of premium cheeses in March 2004, joining the ranks of Private Selection's Crumbled Blue and Feta Cheeses. At $2.49 for a 4-ounce cup, the product looks expensive, but is not, according to the retailer. The packaging design is unique to the Private Selection Cheese line. The cup has an inner seal and a plastic lid. The outer carton, in a sleek black and purple design, features product description and is designed to allow the product to be displayed standing up.

The PLMA focus group gave the product high marks for taste within the dairy category. "I would definitely buy the goat cheese," Arthur Zimbalist, president of the Meyers Research Center, New York, told fellow panelists during the tasting event.

The specifications for Private Selection Crumbled Goat Cheese were determined by pre-selecting a similar premium branded product and ensuring the Kroger rendition met the same quality standards, according to company representatives.

Private Selection Crumbled Goat Cheese can be found in Kroger's grocery, dairy, deli or wall deli departments, depending on store configurations, throughout the United States. The retailer supported its rollout with demos and in-store sampling.
