er Inc. here said last week that Cy Green, president and chief operating officer, will retire Feb. 3. Green joined the company in 1947 as a parcel clerk and has served as president and chief operating officer since 1972.

Following Green's retirement, Curt Lerew III will become executive vice president of sales and operations, a newly created position. He currently is senior vice president of the Food Group. Sam Duncan will succeed Lerew as senior vice president of the Food Group. He is a division vice president and merchandiser in the Food Group. Lerew will report to Bob Miller, chairman of the board and chief executive officer. The company has no plans to fill the positions of president and chief operating officer, a spokesman said. The company's nonfood unit, General Group, will be divided into two groups, with Mary Sammons named as senior vice president of the apparel and home electronics group, and Wayne Abbott appointed as senior vice president of the home group. Sammons has been senior vice president of the General Group and Abbott divisional vice president of the General Group's Home Division.

All title changes are effective as of Feb. 4.

Green, who will be 65 in June, said he had planned to retire around age 65 and that this was a good time for the company to remake its management structure.

Bruno's Appoints Senior VP

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Bruno's here has named Lisa Kranc to the new post of senior vice president of marketing. She reports to William J. Bolton, Bruno's chairman and chief executive officer. Kranc was vice president of marketing and advertising for Giant Eagle, Pittsburgh. At Bruno's, both marketing and real estate report to her.

Sainsbury Adds Supermarket Chief

LONDON (DJ) -- J. Sainsbury here said Deputy Chairman Tom Vyner had been appointed chief executive of the group's U.K. supermarket business, effective at the mid-March start of fiscal 1996. The U.K. food retailer also said Dino Adriano, chairman of the group's Homebase do-it-yourself stores, would become deputy chief executive of the U.K. supermarket business, eventually succeeding Vyner when Vyner retires at the end of 1997.

Separately, David Quarmby will be put in charge of business development and direct services to all companies in the Sainsbury group, the company said.
