Gristede'S supermarkets employees represented by United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1500 are scheduled to vote today on ratification of a new four-year contract. Some 600 employees are affected. Gristede's is a division of Red Apple Cos., New York. The same agreement has been approved by workers at seven other companies that operate in the metropolitan New York area.
Sept. 8. All other fresh juices must be labeled by Nov. 5, if producers haven't met the FDA's pathogen-reduction standards. These standards include having a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point program and treating juice with ultraviolet light or sodium benzoate to kill bacteria.
Trader joe co.,Pasadena, Calif., is being sued by a female cashier who is seeking unspecified monetary damages for alleged sexual harassment and discrimination at a store in San Jose, in northern California. Alice Najar, who still works for the company at another location, says in her legal complaint that company management failed to prevent the alleged harassment by a store supervisor and that she was warned her complaint put her job at risk. The company could not be reached for comment.
Weis markets Sunbury, Pa., last week declared a higher quarterly dividend of 25 cents for its common shares, payable Aug. 21 to holders of record Aug. 8. The company paid 24 cents in the previous quarter.
