'Tales' Gets Aggressive

ggieTales' latest video offering, "The Star of Christmas," will be supported by the "most aggressive marketing campaign ever" by producer Big Idea Productions here. The marketing efforts include a targeted, multi-million-dollar, national post-street date television campaign with ads running on Lifetime, ABC Family and Animal Planet, among others. The print ads will appear in magazines like "Family Circle," "Parents" and "Child." Radio advertising will run on Radio Disney. "The title will benefit greatly from our biggest marketing campaign yet and is positioned perfectly for the holiday gift-giving season," said Dan Merrell, senior vice president, marketing and sales. "The Star of Christmas" will be available on Oct. 29 on VHS for $14.99 and on DVD for $19.99.

DreamWorks Dreams Up New Brand

GLENDALE, Calif. -- DreamWorks Home Entertainment here will launch DreamWorks Animation, a new brand of animated family titles on Nov. 19, including "Antz," "Chicken Run," "Shrek" and "The Prince of Egypt." The branded array of titles features all-new, character-focused packaging that prominently features the new brand name and logo. The launch will be supported by Instant Win games with on-pack, peel-off stickers that guarantee prizes like a Ford Mustang convertible or Baskin-Robbins ice cream cones. Additionally, a mail-in coupon redeemable for a free VHS or DVD of any DreamWorks Animation title will be included inside every "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" package, as well as on specially marked popcorn bags in theaters nationwide starting next month. The re-introduction of the family animated catalog, along with the striking new look, will create a significant impact at retail during this highly competitive fourth quarter, said Kelly Sooter, domestic head of DreamWorks Home Entertainment.

'Grinch' Gets a Makeover

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -- The Grinch is getting a new look for this year's holiday season. "Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas," produced by Universal Studios Home Video here, will be released on a new two-disc, deluxe-edition DVD on Nov. 5. In support of the new DVD edition, there will be a $3 coupon redeemable with the purchase of "The Grinch" and "E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial" DVDs. Consumers who previously purchased "The Grinch" DVD have the opportunity to upgrade to the two-disc deluxe edition and receive $5 back by mail. Universal will also launch a national sweepstakes with a trip to the "Dr. Suess' The Cat in the Hat" premiere.
