NORWALK, Conn. -- Stew Leonard's here said it plans to open its largest unit -- a 200,000-square-foot supermarket -- early in 1997 at one of two potential locations.

According to Leonard, the Connecticut site "is more romantic," but the Tarrytown site, in Westchester County north of New York City, "is better from a financial standpoint, with 1.5 million mostly high-income shoppers within a 15-mile radius." He said the company hopes to select a location within three months and expects to have the store open within a year, probably in the early part of 1997. Stew Leonard's existing stores, here and in Danbury, Conn., are 108,000 square feet and 148,000 square feet, respectively.
