California UFCW Local May Be Absorbed by 2 Others

If the deal is approved, Local 1036, which has been operating under a trusteeship since late 2007 following a disputed election, will be disbanded, with approximately 8,000 of its 12,000 members transferring to UFCW Local 770, which will boost its current membership of 25,000.

The other 4,000 members will become part of Local 8-Golden State, Roseville, Calif. — a 30,000-member union since its merger last year with UFCW 588 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The union spokesman said the international has been trying for years to get smaller locals to become part of larger locals.
