PITTSBURGH — Giant Eagle continues to update its Facebook fans about the status of its Alaska Copper River Salmon supply.
In a Facebook message posted Tuesday, Capt. Buck Gibbons talks about the better-than-usual harvest.
"For the first three openings on the Copper River this year, we've harvested 460,000 fish. Last season we harvested 635,000 fish for the entire season,” Gibbons writes. “This year's run has all the makings of a barn-burner."
Giant Eagle also encouraged Facebook fans to post a photo of their favorite Alaska Copper River Salmon recipe.
As reported, Giant Eagle partnered with Gibbons to catch the salmon and have it jet-shipped to its stores just hours after harvest. Gibbons is co-founder of the Wildcatch fishing company.
