Kroger Embraces New Mobile Coupon Service

The Kroger Co., which last year became the first food retailer to offer mobile coupons through Cellfire, is now offering another mobile coupon service via AOL’s Shortcuts.com paperless electronic coupon program.

CINCINNATI — The Kroger Co., which last year became the first food retailer to offer mobile coupons through Cellfire, is now offering another mobile coupon service via AOL’s Shortcuts.com paperless electronic coupon program.

All Kroger banners are participating in Shortcuts.com Mobile, which enables users to go to www.shortcuts.com on their cell phones or smart phones to select coupons, according to Shortcuts. Within minutes of selection, the coupons are ready for use on the customer’s loyalty card.

Users can search for specific coupons as well as view their shopping lists from their mobile devices.

“Shortcuts.com Mobile enables users to access coupon savings while they’re doing their shopping and the coupons are available for use once they hit the checkout line,” said Kimberley Partoll, executive vice president of AOL’s new ventures unit, in a statement. New users must first sign up at www.shortcuts.com from their computer before logging in from their cell phones.

A Kroger spokeswoman was unavailable for comment. A second food retail partner will be announced in the spring, according to Shortcuts.
