NCBA REVAMPS BEEF TRAINING CAMP

DENVER — The National Cattlemen's Beef Association has launched an updated version of its online Beef Training Camp that includes two new modules: one on customer service and another on Hispanic marketing. This new version, like the original online training tool the association released in 2004, is designed to give retailers a convenient way to educate their meat department associates about beef so they will be able to convey helpful information to their customers. The updated version includes information on new cuts — such as the “ranch steak” — and consumer trends based on up-to-date data. The 14 separate modules of Beef Training Camp can be customized for various training scenarios, such as basics for new employees, periodic customer service refreshers and preparation for various selling seasons. For example, the Oven Roasts module could be used during the holiday season to give employees in-depth information about various cuts and how to prepare them. The updated training program, funded by the Beef Checkoff Program, has been made available for download at www.BeefRetail.org.

STOP & SHOP FEEDS THE NEEDY

QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop here has donated almost 20,000 turkeys to hunger relief organizations throughout New Jersey, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Connecticut this holiday season through its Turkey Express program. The retailer also recently invited fourth-grade students from the Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union, in West Orange, N.J., to visit the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and learn how members of the New Jersey corporate community are working with food banks and food pantries throughout the state, helping provide food for New Jersey's needy.
