Redbox Gets EMA Retailer of Year Award

DVD rental kiosk provider Redbox Automated Retail, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., was named Specialist Retailer of the Year by the Entertainment Merchants Association during its convention this month, the company said yesterday.

ENCINO, Calif. — DVD rental kiosk provider Redbox Automated Retail, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill., was named Specialist Retailer of the Year by the Entertainment Merchants Association here during its convention this month, the company said yesterday. Redbox machines are in many supermarket chains across the country including Albertsons, Kroger, Stop & Shop, Wegmans and Giant Eagle, in addition to outlets of McDonalds, Oakbrook, Ill., which has an ownership interest in the company along with Coinstar, Bellevue, Wash. By the end of August, redbox's market presence will exceed 4,800 locations nationwide, and the company has now rented over 50 million DVDs, said Greg Kaplan, chief executive officer. "In just 18 square feet of retail space, redbox maximizes the consumer experience,” noted Bo Andersen, president of EMA. Target Corp., Minneapolis, was named EMA’s Mass Merchant/Grocery Retailer of the Year.
