BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The original Buffalo Wing was created in 1964 when Teressa Bellissimo, owner of the Anchor Bar here, was looking for something in the bar's kitchen to serve her son and his friends, according to Reckitt Benckiser.

She found some chicken wings, and decided to sprinkle them with Frank's Original RedHot Cayenne Pepper Sauce and some melted butter. Voila! Buffalo Wings were born.

The Anchor Bar remains open today, and publicizes the fact that it's home of the original Buffalo Wing. While Reckitt Benckiser boasts about the involvement of its Frank's RedHot brand, Anchor's Web site, buffalowings.com, doesn't mention Frank's. The Anchor Bar now markets "The Original Anchor Bar Sauce."

But Frank's still retains its link to the Buffalo Wing, in part by participating in the National Buffalo Wing Festival, which has become an annual event here along with its new Buffalo Wing Eating Circuit..
