VERNON, Calif. -- Smart & Final here said last week that Roger M. (Rocky) Laverty 3rd, president and chief operating officer, will leave the company April 30 to launch his own consulting business.

Laverty is a third-generation Smart & Final president. He joined the company in 1979 as general counsel. He has held a variety of positions with the company and was named president and chief operating officer in 1993.
Laverty said his new company will help businesses develop customer-linked technology strategies, and offer advice on leadership and team building.
Robert J. Emmons will assume the role of president while continuing to serve as chairman and chief executive officer.
Emmons said, "Rocky Laverty has made a major contribution to the growth and evolution of Smart & Final. I understand his desire to explore new personal opportunities, but his counsel and wisdom will be missed by all of the associates at Smart & Final."
