SN has launched a call for nominations for its first annual Technology Excellence Awards program, which will recognize food-distribution companies that have demonstrated excellence in the use of technology in running their businesses.

SN will select three companies for this award: one self-distributing chain; one wholesaler; and one independent retailer (wholesaler-supplied and privately held). Each company will have employed technology over the past year to enhance operations (reduce costs or boost revenues) in one or more of the following areas: stores; warehouses; headquarters; and the Web (with trading partners, stores or consumers). Nominations may be filled out and submitted on the SN Web site, www.supermarketnews.com. Nominations should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than Jan. 10, 2003.

SN editors will select winners based on nominations and supporting data. Winners will be profiled in the Feb. 24 edition of SN and will be given their awards at a ceremony to be held in Dallas at a time yet to be determined during Feb. 23-25, coinciding with the Food Marketing Institute's Marketechnics show.

Nominations are welcome from anyone working in or for the food-distribution industry, including retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, brokers and technology vendors. Retailer and wholesaler companies may nominate themselves for an award.
