ORLANDO, Fla. — For nearly 20 years, the top cake-decorating talents have competed at the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association’s show.

The designers craft their cakes for three days as conference-goers mill about in the middle of the Show & Sell Center on the exposition floor. Often the cake designers answer impromptu questions about their cakes as they design them.

This year, Rebecca Lougheed from Food City in Greeneville, Tenn., took the top prize (top). IDDBA awarded Kelli Coleman from Dillons in Lawrence, Kan., second place (left) and Dawnette Costa from Giant Eagle in Erie, Pa., third (bottom).

IDDBA gives the designers a unique challenge each day of the contest. The first day the decorators were asked to fill an entire bakery case. The second day the designers were asked to craft a wedding cake and the third day was a decorator’s choice theme.
