WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee has improved the recipes for its fresh-based cookies.

“We tried a lot of recipes. Baked a lot of cookies. Sampled a lot of cookies. Asked customers to taste and test. We tweaked the recipes and sampled again,” the retailer states on its website.

The result is “Better ingredients. Bigger chips. Plumper raisins. Richer chocolate. Creamier peanut butter. Crunchier. Chewier. And ultimately — yummier.”

Selections include chocolate chip made with Ghirardelli chocolate, M&M, peanut butter, Snickerdoodle and molasses.

Hy-Vee has posted cookie/beverage pairing ideas on its website, suggesting such combinations as oatmeal cookies served with cappuccino or brown ale.

The retailer was scheduled to sample the new cookies Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
