Supervalu's Dabill Sets Retirement Date
ecutive vice president and president of the retail services and corporate strategies group at Supervalu here, will retire after 34 years with the company.
Dabill's retirement is effective Oct. 1. Until a replacement is found, other department heads will take over his duties, a Supervalu spokeswoman told SN.
Since joining Supervalu's Fargo, N.D., wholesale division in 1962, Dabill has held a number of management positions at the company. He formerly was corporate regional president of wholesale operations and president of the Fort Wayne, Ind., division, where he served from 1979 to 1985. He was named corporate senior vice president in 1988 and executive vice president in 1992.
Supervalu also announced that Ken Kegerreis, president of the Denver division, retired Aug. 30 after a 21-year career with the company. Under a structural change, Supervalu now operates with regional rather than division presidents.
Rainbow Foods President to Step Down
HOPKINS, Minn. -- Sid Applebaum, president and founder of Rainbow Foods here, plans to step down Dec. 28 to pursue other interests, according to Fleming Cos., Oklahoma City, which owns the chain.
Applebaum, a longtime supermarket veteran who founded Rainbow in 1983, is slated to be succeeded by Tom Farello, who has been named executive vice president. Applebaum will assist Farello until the end of the year, when Farello will become president, Fleming reported.
Farello, formerly president of Hyde Park Markets, a Fleming chain in Florida, has worked in all areas of store operations. As executive vice president, he will work with Sid and Steve Applebaum, executive vice president of marketing, to develop Rainbow's 1997 business plan.
Harris Teeter Taps 3 Group VPs
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Harris Teeter here has named three executives group vice presidents of operations as part of a realignment of its operations and merchandising departments.
John Hutchens, formerly vice president of operations, oversees Virginia and the area from Greensboro, S.C., to Winston-Salem, N.C., to Raleigh-Durham and Chapel Hill, N.C. Doug Rhodes, previously vice president of community stores, supervises western South Carolina and North Carolina plus the Charlotte, N.C.; Columbia, S.C.; Nashville, Tenn.; and Atlanta markets. Karen Stout, formerly a regional director, directs the coastal Carolinas region. All three report to Fred Morganthall, executive vice president.
Harris Teeter also said John Rohr, regional director, has been named regional vice president, a new position. He also reports to Morganthall.
Farm Fresh Adds VP Slot
NORFOLK, Va. -- Farm Fresh here has named Orville Crook to the new position of vice president of finance.
The new post expands Crook's present responsibilities as controller to include all aspects of the company's finance and accounting functions, risk assessment and abatement. He reports to Michael Julian, chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Crook joined Farm Fresh as assistant controller in 1988. He has more than 30 years of experience in senior management of the fiscal operations of food and drug retailers, including Kroger Co., Cincinnati.
