WEST DES MOINES, Iowa- Hy-Vee is wrapping up its annual “Spring Time Party.”
During the weeklong event, associates decorate the store with themed displays. Some staffers wear coordinating costumes.
The companywide event was born in 1963 as a way to turn spring-cleaning into a fun outlet for employees and customers.
“The annual ritual grew into a friendly competition and sales promotion that follows months of preparation,” Hy-Vee wrote on its Facebook page Thursday. Employees are challenged to come up with unique themes.
Among this year’s themes: the 1970’s, a panda, mini golf and cowboys and cowgirls. Pictures from some of this year’s favorite displays and costumes are posted on the Hy-Vee Facebook page.
Several of Hy-Vee’s Facebook fans wrote about their stores’ themes, including “Where’s Waldo,” “Super Hero” and “Pirates.”
One store went all out for a “Willy Wonka” theme by showing the movie in the store’s cafeteria, passing out candy, and hiding “Golden Tickets” throughout the store.
