Mad March Imports has introduced Mad March Hare, a premium Irish Poitin (pronounced ‘put-cheen’). Distilled in a copper pot still using the highest quality malted barley, Mad March Hare is an 80 proof spirit that pays homage to this ancient craft, with an age-old recipe that delivers a complex yet incredibly smooth spirit, according to company officials.

“With the U.S. market accounting for approximately 36 percent of Irish whiskey sales, and craft spirits continuously growing in popularity, we feel it is the perfect opportunity to introduce the U.S. consumer to the ancient craft of Irish poitin,” says John Ralph, co-founder of Mad March Imports. “Our small batch, premium poitin is an extremely versatile spirit with a character as unique as its history.”

Forced underground in 1661, production of poitin continued off the map, creating the rich and intriguing history the spirit is known for. “Poitin plays a large role in the history of Ireland and especially Irish whiskey, with local distilling tradition being similar to that of American craft spirits,” Ralph adds. “We look forward to bringing this Irish tradition to life in the U.S. and allowing consumers to discover the quality and heritage of Mad March Hare.”

Mad March Hare will be launching in on- and off-premise accounts in California, Massachusetts, Illinois and New York in February 2016 and Connecticut in March 2016 at a suggested retail price of $24.99/750ml. Mad March Hare can be enjoyed over ice or with a simple mix, such as ginger ale or soda.
