IRI and Technomic have teamed up to combine data on what consumers buy at retail stores with what they order at restaurants.

The new Restaurant 2 Retail Insights report asked 50,000 IRI Consumer Network panelists to fill out a Technomic survey on visitation frequency, meal occasion and menu detail for the 23 largest limited-service chain restaurants.

The two companies assert the data will aid CPG manufacturers, retailers and restaurants in better understanding consumer trends. For example, a manufacturer could use information from the report to promote its branded products in restaurants, while a restaurant might use it to get its branded products into grocery stores.

“R2R Insights opens the door to a full understanding of the patterns and correlation of what consumers buy for consumption at and away from home,” Bob Goldin, EVP, Technomic, said in a press release. “Understanding cross-channel behavior can drive new growth strategies for industry participants.”

IRI and Technomic plan to produce additional R2R Insights reports in the future.
