Mid-Atlantic grocer Weis Markets has extended its “Low, Low Price” savings program to the breakfast foods category.

Sunbury, Pennsylvania-based Weis said this week that customers now will find lower everyday prices on more than 700 of the supermarket chain’s most popular breakfast items.

Price reductions in the “Low, Low Price” breakfast program such products as selected Kellogg’s, General Mills and Post midsize cereals; Pearl Milling Company pancake mix (52- to 55-oz. packages); Quaker instant oatmeal (7.4- to 14.1-oz. packages); Nature Valley granola bars (6-oz. packages); Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts (six- to eight-count packages) and Weis Quality cereals (10.6- to 18.7-oz. packages).

The expansion of the price-cut program to breakfast foods should be welcome news to consumers. While overall food-at-home price inflation has declined steadily over much of the past year, cereal pricing remains high. In May, cereals and bakery was the only food category with double-digit inflation growth, up 10.7% year over year.

“Our ‘Low, Low Price’ program has resulted in millions of dollars in savings for our customers. We’re now offering the lowest everyday price on hundreds of our best-selling breakfast items,” Bob Gleeson, senior vice president of merchandising and marketing at Weis Markets, said in a statement. “This expansion will give our customers more opportunities to eat better and spend less on the groceries they already buy.”

Weis Markets launched the “Low, Low Price” program in January 2019 across grocery categories and then added fresh produce the following year. Frozen foods later were added to “Low, Low Price” in May 2022 as the grocer dropped the prices on hundreds of national- and private-brand frozen items.

Since the inception of the “Low, Low Price” program, Weis customers have saved more than $30 million on over 10,000 brand-name and Weis Quality-brand grocery, produce and frozen products. The retailer has noted that price investments like “Low, Low Price” have paid dividends at the top line.

Overall, Weis Markets operates 197 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia.
