HARRISBURG, Pa. — Ahold banners Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets marked June Dairy Month with the news that their private-label milk has been qualified as “PA Preferred.”
"PA Preferred" is the Pennsylvania state agriculture department’s official brand that denotes products grown or produced in Pennsylvania.
The announcement was made here in the state’s capital, where Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley, state Secretary of Agriculture George Greig, elected officials and the Pennsylvania dairy princess joined Giant/Martin officials at a Giant store event.
The public launch made here this week dovetails with consumers’ increasing interest in buying local — preferably very local — products.
“Giant embraces our commitment to being a responsible retailer by offering our customers the widest selection of locally grown and produced products possible,” Rick Herring, Giant Food Stores president, said in a news release.
“Now when customers purchase milk in our stores, they can feel good about the role they are playing in helping to keep Pennsylvania agribusiness strong and supporting our local dairy farmers.”
