BJ’s Wholesale Club has expanded mobile deli ordering to its warehouse clubs in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The Westborough, Mass.-based retailer said yesterday that members can now place and track deli orders via the BJ’s mobile app at 21 stores, including 19 in Massachusetts and two in Rhode Island.

The pilot program enables members to select premium deli meats and cheeses — as well as the desired thickness — and place an order with their designated club. All orders are ready within 20 minutes and are held until the club closes for the day, BJ’s said.

Members can choose from a variety of deli meats and cheeses from brands such as Dietz & Watson, Land O’Lakes and Wellsley Farms, a BJ’s own brand. The retailer noted that it’s the only major membership warehouse club to offer a full-service deli.

“We’re excited to offer mobile deli ordering to an expanded group of members,” Rafeh Masood, senior vice president and chief digital officer at BJ’s, said in a statement. “We believe the ability to place deli orders ahead of time will make shopping at the club easier and more efficient than ever.”

BJ’s has been busy of late enhancing its online presence. Last week, BJ’s launched a click-and-collect service called “Shop BJs.com – Pick Up in Club,” which allows members to make purchases from a selection of thousands of items on BJs.com and choose to pick up their orders in as soon as two hours from any of BJ’s 215 warehouse clubs in 16 states.

In addition, BJ’s has expanded its Add-to-Card Coupons functionality to orders placed via BJs.com and the Shop BJs.com – Pick Up in Club service, and its website now sports a new look and feel to offer customers a more user-friendly, personalized shopping experience.

Those enhancement came a week after BJ’s added a new “swipe right” shopping tool to its mobile app. The discover function enables shoppers to explore new products and swipe right on their mobile device screen to add to a wish list.
