BIG Y TAPS D'AMOUR FOR FRESH FOOD POSITION

D'Amour is responsible for sales and marketing in the fresh produce, floral, deli, bakery, food-service, seafood and meat departments. In addition to developing a long-term fresh food strategy for the company, D'Amour will be responsible for all training and development, merchandising and advertising for the fresh departments. He reports to Daniel Lescoe, senior vice president of merchandising. D'Amour, who started at Big Y in 1987, has held a number of positions at the chain, most recently working as a fresh produce category manager. Big Y operates 54 stores in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

PRICE CHOPPER APPOINTS DELI MERCHANDISER

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - A veteran retailer has been named director of deli merchandising, a new position for Price Chopper Supermarkets here. Tim Fink reports directly to Tom Brewer, vice president of deli and food-service merchandising at the chain. In his new position, Fink oversees all deli and food-service merchandising at the company's 111 stores. Fink brings 30 years of retailing experience to the post. Previously, he worked for Dick's Supermarkets, now a division of Sheboygan, Wis.-based Fresh Brands. Price Chopper operates stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

AG NEW ENGLAND HIRES SENIOR PRODUCE BUYER

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Associated Grocers of New England has appointed Leonard Miner to senior produce buyer, a newly created position. Miner reports to Dominic Viglione, director of AG New England's produce department. Previously, Miner spent 13 years at Jackson Star Market, Meredith, N.H., as an assistant produce manager, produce manager and assistant store manager. AG New England, the largest retailer-owned wholesale grocery distribution center in New England, serves independent food stores in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the upstate New York area.
