The Arizona-based Bashas’ Family of Stores has promoted Karen Giroux, a 42-year grocery veteran, to the new position of director of operations, the company announced Wednesday.

She will oversee retail operations such as merchandising, sales, marketing promotions, food safety and compliance for the 58 supermarkets under the Bashas’ banner across the state.

She also helped to open the first Bashas’ store in Navajo Nation territory in 1981.

Giroux started with the company in 1975 in a part-time role as a courtesy clerk at the age of 18.

She served as a store director and senior store director before being named the director of retail regulatory agency relations. She also has served as manager of food safety.

Bashas’ Family of Stores includes four other banners: Food City, AJ’s Fine Foods, Eddie’s Country Store and Bashas’ Diné. The five brands together operate more than 100 locations, all in Arizona.
