Parent Smart & Final Stores Inc. said Friday that Jones will continue to report to president and chief executive officer Dave Hirz.

Based near Portland, Ore., Cash & Carry has about 60 wholesale stores in Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada and Utah. Serving the foodservice industry, the warehouse-format stores offer a wide range of larger quantity products in a one-stop shop setting.

"We look forward to Derek's expanded role with Smart & Final and his support in delivering great results for both brands," Hirz said in a statement. "He has the industry experience and proven track record to continue driving growth in our key markets, and we're confident he's the right person for this important part of our business."

Jones has 27 years of experience in the retail sector. He came to Cash & Carry last April from Grand Rapids, Mich.-based grocery distributor and retailer SpartanNash Co., where he served as president and executive vice president of wholesale and distribution operations. Before that, he held various roles at SpartanNash, including EVP of food distribution, EVP of retail operations and EVP of wholesale operations.

His background also includes positions in operations, distribution and supply chain at Unisource Worldwide, Office Depot, Walgreens and Walmart.

Commerce, Calif.-based Smart & Final Store operates 323 grocery and foodservice stores under the Smart & Final, Smart & Final Extra! and Cash & Carry Smart Foodservice banners in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, Montana and Utah.
