Former Walmart executive Jim Moriarty has joined Kings Food Markets and Balducci’s Food Lover’s Market as chief financial officer.

The Parsippany, N.J.-based upscale grocer said Moriarty will oversee the company’s finance and accounting teams and loss prevention.

Kings noted that Moriarty brings more than 18 years of retail financial experience, including 11 years at Walmart. Most recently, he served as senior director of operations finance and strategy for Walmart’s Northeast division and acted as divisional CFO.

Prior to joining Walmart, Moriarty (left) spent seven years at Sears Holding Corp. as senior manager for channel strategy and performance and as senior financial manager of corporate planning.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Jim Moriarty to our management team,” Judy Spires, chairman and chief executive officer of Kings and Balducci’s, said in a statment. “With his wealth of experience in the retail industry, his leadership will be invaluable as we continue to grow and expand the Kings Food Markets and Balducci’s Food Lover’s Market brands.”

Overall, Kings operates 25 supermarkets in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. Balducci’s, a specialty gourmet grocer acquired by Kings in 2009, has eight stores in Connecticut, Maryland, New York and Virginia, as well as a Balducci’s Gourmet On The Go location in New York City and a Balducci’s Express outlet in Philadelphia.
