The National Grocers Association has promoted Chelsea Matzen to director of the NGA Foundation and Josh Anderegg to project director of the NGA Foundation Technical Assistance Center (NGAF TA Center).

Chelsea Matzen-NGA Foundation.jpgAs NGA Foundation director, Matzen (pictured left) will oversee all departmental initiatives, including scholarships, industry promotion, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, and student programs, NGA said in announcing the promotions this week. The foundation is the independent grocery industry trade group’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm.

Matzen joined NGA in 2020 as project manager of the NGAF TA Center, coming over to the association after four years with the National Farmers Union. She was promoted to director of the TA Center, which provides nutrition incentive information to grocers, last year.

“Over the past two years, Chelsea has done a great job of supporting and leading the NGAF TA Center,” Greg Ferrara, NGA president and CEO, said in a statement. “Her expanded role as director of the NGA Foundation will allow her to harness her expertise around grants and non-profit organizations to further enhance the important work that the NGA Foundation does each day in support of the independent supermarket industry.”

Josh Anderegg-NGA Foundation TA Center.jpgAnderegg (pictured left) came to NGA earlier this year as NGAF TA Center project manager, helping meet project deliverables, coordinating team subject matter experts and managing relationships with other grant partners. As project director, he will take on an expanded role, creating budgets, increasing industry partnerships and managing the entire NGAF TA Center team. According to NGA, Anderegg’s experience in the food and nutrition arena includes running a mobile food market for the Pittsburgh Food Bank that offered nutrition incentives.

“Over the last two years, the NGAF TA Center has provided independent community grocers with information about nutrition incentives so they can easily incentivize their customers to purchase healthy produce,” Matzen commented. “We have made great strides, and I’m looking forward to seeing Josh build upon these accomplishments, providing training and technical assistance to support America’s independent grocers.”
