SpartanNash taps Nestlé exec Greg Molloy as environmental health VP

Distributor cites health, safety, sustainability as key 2021 initiatives

Greg Molloy has joined grocery wholesaler and retailer SpartanNash as vice president of environmental health and safety.

In the new role, Molloy will develop and oversee strategic initiatives in health, safety and environmental sustainability, ensuring companywide compliance with all safety and environmental laws and regulations, Grand Rapids, Mich.-based SpartanNash said. He reports to Yvonne Trupiano, executive vice president and chief human resources officer.

“One of SpartanNash’s key initiatives in 2021 is improving our associate experience through initiatives related to safety and retention. Mr. Molloy’s leadership will be paramount to achieving these goals,” President and CEO Tony Sarsam said in a statement.

Molloy (left) comes to SpartanNash after more than 10 years at Nestlé USA, most recently as group manager for corporate safety, health and environment (SH&E). In that posted, he directed SH&E and sustainability for Nestle Nutrition, Health Science and newly acquired businesses, leading environmental, health and safety programs for more than 70 sites and 9,000 employees.

Before joining Nestlé, Molloy served as corporate director of risk and EHS at Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, where he bolstered the safety performance of the world’s largest packaged ice cream company, according to SpartaNash. His over 12 years at Dreyer’s was preceded by eight years at General Mills, most recently as manager of EHS.

“As we continue to build a people-first safety culture, his track record of creating comprehensive programs to deliver compliance and safety results and experience ensuring safety measures and awareness are embedded throughout business processes will enable and empower our success at SpartanNash,” Sarsam added.

SpartanNash distributes grocery products to independent and chain retailers, its 154 corporate-owned retail stores and U.S. military commissaries and exchanges. The wholesaler also operates a fresh produce distribution network. The company’s owned-and-operated supermarkets include such banners as Family Fare, Martin’s Super Markets, D&W Fresh Market, VG’s Grocery and Dan’s Supermarket. Overall, SpartanNash serves customer locations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Djibouti.
