Target CMO Jones to resign

Jeff Jones, EVP and chief merchandising officer of Target Corp., will resign effective this Friday, the Minneapolis-based mass merchant said in a filing Tuesday.

The company said Jones notified the company of his decision to resign. The company did not provide a reason for his departure, although published reports Tuesday said he was to serve a senior marketing role at the ride-sharing company Uber. Jones was expected to begin at Uber on Sept. 19, Fortune reported.
According to Target, Jones' areas of responsibility include corporate communications and public relations, brand and category marketing, enterprise loyalty and all advertising, media and marketing operations. He is responsible for the Guest Center of Excellence and serves as the architect for Target’s on-demand shopping experience.
Jones had worked at Target since 2012. He is a former EVP and CMO at Gap Inc. and previously served as president of McKinney, a Durham, N.C.-based advertising agency. He has also held leadership positions at marchFIRST, Inc., Coca-Cola Co., Leo Burnett Worldwide, and LB Works, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leo Burnett, where he served as president and CEO.
