Next week, Adrian Bartella is slated to take the reins as the new chief financial officer at The Fresh Market.

Greensboro, N.C.-based The Fresh Market said yesterday that Bartella, currently CFO at travel retailer Hudson Group, is set to start in the new post on Jan. 17. He takes over from James Heaney, who has stepped down after over a year in the CFO role.

The Fresh Market couldn’t immediately be reached for comment on the CFO change. Heaney’s LinkedIn page indicates that his tenure as CFO ended in October 2021.

In announcing Bartella’s appointment, The Fresh Market noted his experience as CFO during Hudson’s $750 million initial public offering in February 2018. The natural and organic grocer filed a draft registration statement for an IPO with the Securities and Exchange Commission last March and then followed that up with an official IPO registration filing in July. Most recently, The Fresh Market filed an amended IPO investment prospectus with the SEC in late December.

“On behalf of the board of directors, I am very excited to welcome Adrian Bartella to The Fresh Market team,” The Fresh Market CEO Jason Potter said in a statement. “Adrian has an exceptional track record in retail and finance and is a proven executive with significant experience in helping companies navigate the public markets.”

Bartella has more than 15 years of experience in leading finance and accounting teams, including serving as CFO of the Hudson Group, North America’s largest travel retailer, for the past nine years. In Hudson’s IPO, he led the SEC registration process and roadshow marketing with institutional investors, subsequently working with equity research analysts and presenting on quarterly earnings calls after the company went public. Bartella also has served as vice president of controlling and treasury at Hudson and as global head of mergers and acquisitions and global treasury analyst at parent company Dufry Group.

Heaney joined The Fresh Market as CFO in early September 2020 after over five years as CFO and executive vice president of professional services at Carnival Cruise Line. At the specialty grocer, he succeeded Oded Shein, who resigned after just over two years in the CFO post.
