NEW YORK — Another Food Emporium here is slated to close May 31, sources told SN.

The news of the planned closure of the location at 2nd Avenue and 86th Street in Manhattan follows the disclosure in March that two other stores in the chain are also being shuttered next month.

Parent company A&P, Montvale, N.J., has declined to comment on any of the planned closures. It said in September of last year that it was seeking buyers for the upscale banner, which would continue to operate 13 stores in Manhattan after closing the 86th Street store, according to a map on its website.

That location, which is a leased space inside a residential building, has been difficult to access due to a multi-year construction project related to the creation of a 2nd Avenue subway entrance right next to the building. In addition, a high-volume Fairway Market opened half a block away last year, and a Gristedes store unimpeded by the construction operates half a block away in the other direction.
