Brookshire Brothers to convert most David’s

Lufkin, Texas-based Brookshire Brothers said it has completed the acquisition of David’s Supermarkets, and plans to convert 15 of the 25 stores to the Brookshire Brothers banner.

Of the 10 other stores, nine will be David’s or David’s Express, and one will remain Pecan Foods. Among the stores being converted is a recently opened David’s store in Meridian, Texas.

David’s previously had been owned by the Waldrip family, which operated several stores in small towns in North Texas. Terms of the acquistion were not disclosed. 

“The Waldrip family serves communities similar to those we serve,” said Brookshire Brothers president and CEO Jerry Johnson. “Their values align with ours. We understand their customers.”

John Alston, COO for Brookshire Brothers, added that some of David’s Supermarkets’ corporate staff have joined Brookshire Brothers.

“We feel these communities in north central Texas are the heart of America,” he said. “Serving them and serving with them in their communities will be our privilege. We are pleased to offer all existing store level employees of David’s a position with our company.”

Founded in 1921, Brookshire Brothers is 100% employee-owned. Its assets include 148 retail outlets, including grocery stores, convenience stores, and freestanding pharmacy, tobacco and fuel locations.
