CLEVELAND — Giant Eagle has proposed a two-story Market District Express store here, according to a report Monday on Cleveland.com.

The 30,000-square-foot store, in the Clifton area, would focus on fresh and prepared foods, beer and wine, according to the report. It would also have a 100-seat in-store restaurant on the second floor and an outdoor patio.

The store would be part of a proposed retail development that would require the demolition of a vacant church.

Giant Eagle previously operated a traditional supermarket in the neighborhood, but closed it five years ago, the article said.

Giant Eagle currently operates eight full-sized, upscale Market District stores, and previous reports have indicated the company has plans for Market District Express locations in the Columbus, Ohio, suburb of Bexley, and in the Pittsburgh area, where the company is based.

A spokesman for Giant Eagle could no be reached for comment.
