Davis, Stewart Receive NGA Spirit of America Award

ARLINGTON, Va. — The National Grocers Association here said Wednesday it has presented its Spirit of America Award to two Alabama-based executives: John L. Davis, president of A&R Supermarkets, Calera, Ala., and Dennis Stewart, president and chief executive officer of Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Co., Bessemer, Ala.

The awards — presented at the Alabama Grocers Association annual convention in Sandestin, Fla. — were given in honor of Davis' and Stewart's involvement in community and civic affairs and for their support and leadership among Alabama grocers.

Davis is a former chairman of the board of the Alabama Grocers Association. He has also been a member of the board of Associated Grocers of the South for 16 years. Stewart is a former association board member and a former member of the NGA board.
