Key Food Expands in NYC
NEW YORK — Key Food Stores has marked the opening of several new stores in the last two weeks, including two in Queens, four in Brooklyn and another in Staten Island.

NEW YORK — Key Food Stores has marked the opening of several new stores in the last two weeks, including two in Queens, four in Brooklyn and another in Staten Island.

On Friday the cooperative held ribbon-cutting ceremonies for two newly opened stores in the Long Beach section of Queens. Both stores previously operated under other banners: The location on West Beech Street was previously C-Town, and an East Park Avenue store was a former Associated Supermarket. The owners of both stores joined the Key Food cooperative here earlier this year, the company said.
“The people of Long Beach deserve quality supermarkets. This is a very strong community that is still continuing to rebuild after Superstorm Sandy,” Gino Palummo, vice president of business development, for Key Food, said in a statement.
Key Food also staged a grand opening Friday for a new location at 155 Bay St. in Staten Island.
“We are very excited to be a part of the Key Food family,” said store owner Mike Said in a statement. “This neighborhood deserves a convenient supermarket that offers high quality and low prices. We could not be happier to open our doors and be a part of the community.”

The three openings on Friday followed two grand openings in Brooklyn the previous week — one at a Key Food located at 4121 Church Ave., followed by one at Key Fresh & Natural located at 3315 Avenue H.
Two other locations — one a Key Food at 2720 Church Ave., and another Key Fresh & Natural at 7918 3rd Ave. — are both currently open, with official celebrations set for later this summer.
All four new additions were formally Associated stores owned by the Shehadeh brothers. These locations will specialize in a large variety of Caribbean items and feature full-service delis and butcher shops.
