New Manhattan Wegmans opens its doors
And on-site dining, including a sushi bar, will open during the first half of 2024
The first Wegmans in Manhattan is officially open.
Located on Astor Place, a one-block street in the lower part of Manhattan, the 87,500-square-foot store reflects the original architecture of the historic Wannamaker building on Broadway. More than 600 workers, many of them local, were hired to staff the store.
The store has a sushi bar, and, a first for Wegmans — omakase, a coursed sushi experience, will be served from the bar. The prepared food, including the sushi, comes from Executive Chef David Lopatynski, and also includes fresh-made salads, hot sandwiches, soups, pizza, wings, and hot Asian cuisine options.
Ready-to-eat and ready-to-heat options come in entrees and sides for both family and individuals, and the Manhattan store also features made-to-order and packaged Mezze options.
The seafood department will have fresh fish delivered from the East Coast and U.S. ports and flown in from the Toyosu Fish Market in Japan.
An onsite dining room, which has a sushi bar and champagne-oyster bar, will open the first half of 2024.
