Southeastern Grocers has laid off 250 workers at its support offices in a move that will help the parent of Winn-Dixie, Harveys and Bi-Lo chains improve efficiency and invest in service and value for customers, the company said in a release.

The cuts took place at Southeastern’s Jacksonville, Fla., headquarters and at regional support centers throughout its seven-state footprint. Store employees were not affected.

“The changes will enable Southeastern Grocers to reinvest in improved quality, service and value for customers, develop store improvement programs across the network and support the stores more effectively. And the efficiencies will also enable Southeastern Grocers to better address the needs of its customers,” the company said.

The company said departing associates would be provided with health benefits through the notice period, and may retain their employee discount for a year. Departing associates with more than 20 years of experience will retain employee discounts for 10 years.
