Walmart+ ad spending is beating out Amazon Fresh, others
Year-over-year increase was also ahead of competitors like Instacart and DoorDash
Walmart has dramatically increased its ad spending when compared to the same period in 2022.
According to Insider Intelligence, Walmart increased its advertising budget by 87% from January through September, compared to the same time frame last year.
Instacart had a 69% year-over-year bump in ad spending, while rival Amazon Fresh came in with just a 3% increase. DoorDash and Thrive Market had their ad budgets over the nine-month segment go up 32% and 12%, respectively. Meanwhile, Uber Eats decreased its spending by 32%.
Walmart , Instacart, and DoorDash combined to spend $458 million in advertising January through September, representing 79% of the total ad spend from grocery delivery services, according to advertising intelligence platform MediaRadar.
Insider Intelligence is predicting total U.S. digital ad spend will increase 13.6% in 2024 to almost $307 billion and that display advertising will make up a little more than half of total digital advertising at 56.2%.
