Weis Markets on Wednesday said it would purchase the location and assets of Nell's Family Market, East Berlin, Pa., from owner C&S Wholesale Grocers. Terms were not disclosed.

The deal will be completed at the end of October and an early November reopening is planned. Weis said the store and pharmacy would remain open in the weeks prior to the finalization of the purchase in late October.

“This is a great store, with an excellent reputation for customer service. This purchase will allow us to increase our market presence in Adams County,” Kurt Schertle, Weis Markets’ COO said. “As part of this process, we’re interested in interviewing Nell’s associates for employment at our company since they’ve helped make this store successful. We look forward to talking to them.”

This is Weis’ second acquisition of a Nell’s location. A year ago, the company purchased a Nell’s Family Market in Hanover, Pa., which it reopened as a replacement store and subsequently remodeled.

Keene, N.H.-based distributor C&S acquired Nell's stores as part of its takeover of Associated Wholesalers in 2014. It continues to operate a location in Spry, Pa.
