ATLANTA — The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced this week that outbreaks of E. coli in Michigan and Ohio are linked, and were likely caused by contaminated ground beef. Seventeen cases have been reported in Ohio and 15 in Michigan since May 31. Health officials in Michigan have said that more than half of the people sickened by the bacteria reported purchasing ground beef from Kroger Food Stores. “We purchase our ground beef from major suppliers in the industry, and we are working with federal, state and local agencies to identify the supplier,” Kroger spokeswoman Meghan Glynn told Reuters yesterday.
