Earlier this month, the Food and Drug Administration on Friday released two long-awaited rules for produce growers and processers related to the Food Safety Modernization Act. The proposed rules specifically concern actions growers must take at the farm and packing level and prevention plans processers must put in place. More than a third (37%) of respondents to an SN poll believe the rules will moderately or substantially improve food safety in the U.S., while the same percentage are hedging their bets. About one quarter (26%) thinks it will have no effect.
