There were lots of holes in the 90th anniversary celebration plans for family-owned Bashas' last week.

But the Arizona-based supermarket chain, which has more than 100 stores, persevered through those challenges to set a Guinness World Record for its creation of a massive doughnut mosaic replica of its logo.

It took more than 14,000 doughnuts and over 50 Bashas’ employees to create the colorful, 900-square-foot mosaic.

It far surpassed the previous doughnut mosaic record (yes, there's a previous doughnut mosaic record) set back in 2012. That one only used 7,040 donuts and was 512 square feet.

Community members were invited to watch as the mosaic was created at Basha High School in Chandler, Ariz., and the first 200 attendees received a complimentary Bashas' doughnut.

“We wanted to do something really special to celebrate Bashas’ 90th anniversary,” said Ashley Shick, director of community relations and public affairs for Bashas’, in a statement. “What could be more special than breaking a Guinness World Records title?”

Bashas’ supermarkets began in 1932 with one location, and now the grocery chain has more than 100 stores statewide under various banners.

The Guinness World Record title was just one of the many events the company has scheduled in celebration of its 90th anniversary. Other events include weekly grocery card giveaways, charity donations and, in September, Bashas' will perform random acts of kindness across the state of Arizona.
