BJ’s Wholesale Club is expanding into Alabama, with a new club in Madison, located 15 miles west of Huntsville, bringing its state count to 20 and deepening its store penetration further west of its traditional Northeast presence.
New clubs will also be coming to Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Johnson City, New York; Lewis Center, Ohio; and North Jacksonville, Florida, the club announced on Thursday.
Following Thursday’s record-setting quarter, the Marlborough, Massachusetts-based wholesale club boasted a “record year, having surpassed $1 billion in adjusted EBITDA for the first time in the company’s history,” Bob Eddy, president and CEO, said in a statement.
Last month, BJ's announced its 19th-state expansion into Tennessee, in La Vergne, 20 miles southeast of downtown Nashville in Rutherford County, which is expected to open in the first half of the year.
“We are always striving to bring our BJ’s membership model to new markets and even more smart-saving families,” said Bill Werner, EVP of strategy and development, in a statement. “We have seen tremendous success with our newest openings. Our expansion into Tennessee and Alabama shortly thereafter is a great example of our efforts to meet the demand for the value, convenience and assortment that BJ’s has to offer its growing member base.”
The locations will also include a BJ’s gas station, and BJ’s said each new club location is expected to create approximately 150 jobs in the respective community.
BJ’s now operates 237 membership-based stores in 18 states.
