BJ’s Wholesale Club has appointed veteran health care technology executive Anjana Harve as executive vice president and chief information officer.

Marlborough, Massachusetts-based BJ's said Monday that Harve starts as its new CIO effective immediately. She reports to Chairman and CEO Bob Eddy and serves as a member of BJ’s executive leadership team.

Harve takes over from Scott Kessler, who left BJ's this past spring to become EVP and CIO at supermarket retailer Northeast Grocery Inc., the parent company of Tops Friendly Markets and Price Chopper/Market 32. BJ's had announced in late May that Kessler was leaving the company, which he joined in May 2017.

“I’m pleased to have a leader of Anjana’s experience joining BJ’s,” Eddy said in a statement. “She brings more than 25 years of experience driving innovative technology transformations and leading and inspiring high-performing teams. She will play a crucial role in further strengthening our technology to advance our long-term strategic growth priorities and deliver greater value for our members.”

Harve will oversee the strategic leadership and direction of the warehouse club’s information technology organization to drive business outcomes, optimize revenue growth and improve operating efficiencies.

Prior to BJ’s, Harve served as global CIO at Fresenius Medical Care, where she led information technology, privacy assurance, cyber, digital and data security across key business units. Her previous roles span various CIO and technology leadership positions at Hill-Rom, Novartis and Shire, along with other senior management positions during her career.

Harve holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering from Bangalore University in India and a master's in business administration from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania.

Overall, BJ's operates 238 warehouse clubs and 168 BJ's Gas stations across 19 states.
