Fareway Stores Inc., a Boone, Iowa-based grocery company currently operating 129 stores in six states, has promoted three members of its executive team to lead the “Fareway family into the future,” said CEO Reynolds Cramer.
Garrett Piklapp, most recently EVP/secretary/general counsel, has been named president. Mike McCormick, who was EVP of merchandising, has been appointed chief retail officer. Both appointments are effective immediately.
Garrett Piklapp
Piklapp has been with Fareway for 13 years. He oversees departments such as real estate, legal, communications, outreach and IT. Piklapp also acts as the secretary to the board and corporation. He serves as a liaison to shareholders and assists with business strategy development. A member of local and statewide civic organizations, including the Iowa Grocery Industry Association and Iowa Business Council, Piklapp also holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
Mike McCormick
McCormick has been employed by Fareway for 30 years, serving in a number or retail roles, most recently as EVP of merchandising. He works with Fareway’s direct service delivery, wholesale purchasing, category management and marketing. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Northern Iowa.
Jake Moran, who joined Fareway as SVP of finance and accounting in April, will become CFO effective Oct. 31, succeeding current CFO Craig Shepley, who is retiring after 36 years with the company.
Jake Moran
Moran began his career as a CPA with Deloitte in the audit and assurance practice and served a wide array of clients during his 12-year tenure. Prior to Fareway, he was CFO of Gilcrest Jewett Lumber Co. in Waukee, Iowa. Moran has a master’s degree in accountancy from Kansas State University.
“Garrett and Mike have been important members of our leadership team for many years, and we are excited to have Jake join this team,” said Cramer in a statement. “They each bring specialized skills to help lead, support and execute our strategy with our officer team, department leaders and retail employees.
“Since becoming CEO nearly eight years ago, I’ve been dedicated to the growth and experience of our teams at all levels,” continued Cramer. “Today’s announcement gives me great satisfaction in seeing this plan achieve another milestone. There is much to be excited about at Fareway, and I’m grateful to have this team assist me in leading our Fareway family into the future.”
