Boone, Iowa-based Fareway Stores held not one but two groundbreaking ceremonies on April 11 in Iowa with news that a third location is expected soon as well. The two new stores will be located at 16035 Hickman Road in Clive and 9080 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines. Site work will begin immediately, with expected completion of both locations in early 2023. Fareway also announced another new location is being planned at 10th and Sunrise in Waukee, Iowa.

The Midwest grocer said the Clive location will be approximately 24,000 square feet and that the West Des Moines location will be about 21,000 square feet.

“We are excited to continue our growth and bring additional locations to expanding areas of the metro,” said Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer in a statement. “We want to thank both local and state officials and look forward to serving area residents and the surrounding neighborhoods.”

State and local officials who attended the ceremonies congratulated the grocery retailer. “Fareway is a great Iowa company that understands the needs of our state and is committed to meeting them in communities large and small,” said Debi Durham, executive director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Finance Authority, in a statement. “The fact that Fareway is willing to design stores and product lines based on a neighborhood or community speaks to this company’s innovative spirit.”

West Des Moines Mayor Russ Trimble at the groundbreaking ceremony said, “The new location will offer our residents another option when it comes to groceries and some of the freshest meat and produce in the market.”

Fareway said the new Clive store will be the grocery retailer’s second location in the community. The fist Clive store opened in 2010. Clive Mayor John Edwards in a statement thanked the grocer for its “continued commitment to Clive with the opening of their second location on Hickman Road.”

Last month, Fareway Stores opened its sixth Nebraska store, welcoming in shoppers at 604 S. Highway 6 in Gretna, Neb. The company said the 21,000-square-foot store in Gretna is the company's first brick-and-mortar with a deli operation, which features pre-made sandwiches or specialty sandwiches made daily.
