Fareway Stores, Inc. opened the doors on Friday to its newest meat market.
The 8,700-square-foot Fareway Meat Market is located at 8606 NE 85th Street in Northland, an area on the north side of Kansas City.
“We look forward to welcoming a new Fareway Meat Market location to Kansas City north. With family roots in Iowa, I know the quality and value Fareway will bring to area residents,” said Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Valerie McCaw in a statement. “Additionally, we are proud to see continued economic growth occurring in our region and are excited to welcome businesses like Fareway to The Northland.”
The Fareway Meat Market features a full-service butcher counter; grocery selections including farm-fresh produce; and to-go barbecue meal options through McGonigle’s Kitchen and Catering. The store will feature online ordering as well as curbside pickup.
“We are excited to expand in the Kansas City area with the addition of a new meat market location,” said Fareway President Garrett S. Piklapp in a statement. “Fareway is known for its best in fresh, high-quality meat and full-service butcher counters, but this location will also offer a great grocery selection, prepared foods and exceptional service for Northland area residents.”
Last week the Midwest grocer made headlines following the news of its plans to move the corporate headquarters from Boone, Iowa, to Johnston, which is located just north of Iowa’s capital city of Des Moines.
Boone Mayor John Slight last Tuesday said the city is "disappointed" but understanding of Fareway's decision to relocate about 35 miles south.
Iowa-based Fareway Stores, Inc. is a family-owned business, which operates more than 135 stores and has more than 12,000 total employees.
