Fareway Stores Inc. has the meats. The Boone, Iowa-based grocery retailer held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest Fareway Meat Market in the Des Moines, Iowa, neighborhood of Beaverdale, which opened its doors June 15, Fareway said in a statement.

Located at 2716 Beaver Ave., the 7,760-square-foot Fareway Meat Market offers customers fresh, high-quality meat, which Fareway touts as “second-to-none”; a full-service butcher counter; craft beer and wine; top shelf spirits; and prepared to-go barbecue meal options.

Fareway said the Beaverdale location will offer Kansas City barbecue favorites prepared on-site, including beef brisket, burnt ends, sausage rolls and pulled pork, as well as other meat items smoked fresh and available daily. The meat market will also carry Beaverdale-exclusive items, such as steakhouse baked beans, brisket mac and cheese and smoked meatloaf. Online ordering with curbside pickup is available at Shop.Fareway.com. Fareway said customers can save $5 on their first purchase with a one-time coupon code of BDALEFIVE at online checkout any time before the end of July.

Local officials in the Des Moines area welcomed the news of the stand-alone meat market to their area.

“We look forward to opening Des Moines’ first Fareway Meat Market in the Beaverdale neighborhood,” said Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer, in a statement. “We want to thank the area community and key stakeholders for their support in making the project possible, and welcoming Fareway to this great neighborhood.”

Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie said in a statement, “This store is a wonderful example of how the planning process should work—where ideas are vetted, conversations held and consensus built to deliver something that is beneficial to the community and our residents.”

The Des Moines West Side Chamber in a statement recognized the importance of businesses such as Fareway. Chamber President Tallis Strub said it is “integral to the success of our small business community in Des Moines."

The new store will be managed by Market Manager Bryan Bartsch.
