Fareway Store Coming to LeClaire, Iowa

Boone, Iowa-based Fareway Stores Inc. is coming to LeClaire, Iowa, the grocery retailer said in an April 18 statement announcing a tentative opening date of summer 2023. 

The Midwest grocer plans to renovate the approximately 18,000-square-foot former Slagle’s grocery store located at 1301 Eagle Ridge Road in LeClaire. Fareway said renovation of the existing building should begin later this year.

“We are excited to announce plans to expand and want to thank local officials and the Iowa Economic Development Authority for making this project possible,” Fareway CEO Reynolds Cramer said in a statement. “While residents of LeClaire are familiar with Fareway, we look forward to serving and becoming an integral part of the growing community.”

The company said the store will offer customers fresh, high-quality meat, which it touts as “second to none”; a full-service butcher counter; farm-fresh produce; low, competitive prices; and customer service that includes to-your-car carryout. Additionally, the location will offer FastLanes, a self-service checkout option, and online shopping and curbside pickup, available at Shop.Fareway.com.

“We are thrilled to have Fareway coming to the city of LeClaire,” Mayor Dennis Gerard said in a statement. “Having a full-service grocery store in our city is the No. 1 requested amenity we hear from our residents. We have been working on this for several years. Fareway is the perfect fit for our community.”

Fareway said it will begin the public process this week, with more details forthcoming in the near future. Looking ahead, the company said a future Fareway Store is set to open in the Des Moines, Iowa, (Beaverdale) area next month. The grocery retailer recently opened a store in Gretna, Neb., with more stores set to open later this year.
