Looking to help its customers make grocery shopping easier, Food Lion on Monday expanded its Food Lion To Go grocery pickup service to 15 more stores in the Carolinas, Georgia and Tennessee. To kick things off, Food Lion is offering shoppers their first pickup for free, the Ahold Delhaize’s Salisbury, North Carolina-based banner said in a statement.

“We continue to offer Food Lion To Go at additional stores to help our customers spend more time on what matters most to them,” said Evan Harding, director of digital and e-commerce at Food Lion, in a statement. “We want to give neighbors the option to shop however they prefer, in-store or online, while still ensuring they have access to fresh groceries at affordable prices.”

Food Lion launched the grocery pickup service in 2019 in more than 100 stores across the Carolinas and Virginia, which it said now includes 577 stores.

"With the addition of these 15 stores, Food Lion To Go is now available at 577 stores across our 10-state footprint. Approximately 80 stores are scheduled to expand their services with Food Lion To Go by December. In addition to our Food Lion To Go pickup service at the stores, we currently offer home delivery through 761 stores in partnership with Instacart," Food Lion said in an email to WGB on Monday.

With the click of a button, customers can see availability and place orders through the grocery’s retailer’s website or on the Food Lion To Go app. The pickup service gives shoppers the choice to place an order, pick up same day all while never leaving their car, Food Lion said.

Shoppers can also link their personal Food Lion MVP savings loyalty card to their account, use digital coupons and redeem their “Shop & Earn” MVP rewards program savings, the grocery retailer said. Customers can also see their accumulated Shop & Earn rewards on their checkout screen and view which clipped digital coupons will be applied to their order. This is in addition to their MVP discounts, in-store promotions and weekly savings specials.

The pickup service is available seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The pickup service, where allowed by law, offers customers 21 and older to purchase beer and wine through To Go, Food Lion said.

Food Lion’s newest location, which opened earlier this month in Pittsboro, North Carolina, is one of the stores featuring the pickup service.

The 35,079-square-foot store at 70 Ballantrae Ct., is the third new store Food Lion has opened in 2022, the grocery retailer said in a statement.

“I’m looking forward to providing the Briar Chapel community with our easy in-store checkout options, simple Food Lion To Go online ordering and convenient shopping at the best prices possible every day,” Jason Kiser, store manager of the new Briar Chapel Food Lion, said in a statement.

Food Lion has more than 1,100 stores in 10 southeastern and mid-Atlantic states and employs more than 82,000 associates.
